Open Day January 16th

After a busy period during the latter part of 2025, Friends of Strathaven Castle (FoSC) have managed to acquire the full structural survey of the Castle undertaken in April 2023 along with the budget costs produced in September 2024. This information provides the basis for the work we need to do to the castle to make it safe enough for us to re-open.

All we can do for now is to “consolidate” what remains of the castle and make it safe. Once we have done this we can develop plans for the Castle to play its part in the life of the town.

FoSC wants to share this information so we all know why the castle was closed and what we, as a community, need to do to put it right. We want to share our plans for the castle for the next few years as well as describe the size of the challenge before us.

We have scheduled an INFORMATION EVENT at Strathaven Library for FRIDAY 16th JANUARY starting at 1pm and running till 7pm. This will provide an opportunity for people to stop by and look at a display which will show all the “defects” and the budgets identified to address them. We will provide some refreshments for those visiting us.

We are thrilled that both Strathaven & Glassford Community Council (S&GCC) and South Lanarkshire Council (SLC) have made commitments to collaborate with us and support our plans. This is essential for us all to succeed and we are very grateful to them.

We will have lots of pictures of the castle and all the budget costs together with explanations of our need to raise funds and the immediate plans we have.

There will be a visitors book which will enable people to show their support for the castle in a way which will provide us a way to demonstrate to potential funders the depth and breadth of community support for this icon of Strathaven and an opportunity to postcards of the castle and balloons (for a small donation!)
